When it comes to managing stress and staying focused, consistency is key. After all, you can't have a wellness routine without one key element: routine.
Our bodies all respond differently to sleep, stress, exercise, and CBD. Whatever routine works for you, it's important that you stick to it. Here's why consistency is so important when it comes to managing your sleep, stress, and wellness.
Why a Regular Bedtime Matters
Like naps, bedtimes aren't just for kids. Going to bed at the same time every night, and waking up at the same time every morning, can be extremely beneficial to your health in a variety of ways.
According to the CDC, adults need at least seven hours of sleep per night, but 1 in 3 people don't get the sleep they need. Not enough sleep can have deleterious short- and long-term effects, including high blood pressure, heart disease anxiety, and irritability.
One way to ensure you get the recommended amount of sleep is to go to bed at the same time every night — even on the weekends — and have a consistent waking time as well.
Having a consistent bedtime and wake time can lead to more regular sleep patterns, according to a 2018 study. This doesn't mean you have to achieve sleep perfection, writes Heathline, but training your internal clock can't hurt. We recommend establishing a bedtime routine that includes setting a reminder that it's time to sleep and using SLEEP gummies and drops to aid your rest.
Exercise Regularly — For So Many Reasons
Some exercise is better than no exercise, but science has shown time and time again that consistent exercise is more beneficial than sporadic workouts. The next time you're trying to motivate yourself to work out, remember that physical activity has perks that go far beyond weight loss.
- Brain benefits: regular physical activity can boost your mood and help with stress management. Even moderate types of exercise have been shown to reduce depression; a study of 24 women found that even low-intensity exercise boosted participants' moods post-workout. Another study looked at 26 people who exercised regularly and asked half of them to stop exercising for two weeks; the no-exercise group saw increases in negative mood.
- Heart health: We've all heard by now that a sedentary lifestyle is one of the five risk factors for heart disease. According to the medical journal Circulation, "the effect of continued, moderate exercise on overall cardiovascular risk, when combined with other lifestyle modifications, can be dramatic."
- Energy levels and sleep quality: Exercise has a magical ability: it can give you more energy during the day and help you sleep better at night. Wild, right? According to a broad study from 2005-2006, 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous activity per week can improve sleep quality as much as 65%. Remarkably, exercise also helps fight fatigue. An analysis of 70 studies involving more than 6,800 people found that decreased fatigue was "a very consistent effect" across more than 90% of studies.
Consider Consistent CBD Consumption
Sleep, diet, and exercise are the three main pillars of a wellness routine, but we prefer to mix in other types of self care, like meditation, masturbation, and — of course — CBD. Like most things that are good for you, CBD is more powerful when used consistently.
Just a little reminder: CBD is the abbreviation for cannabidiol, which is a chemical compound extracted from the cannabis plant. CBD is just one of more than 100 naturally occurring cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant.
We talked to one of the leading medical cannabis experts, Dr. Benjamin Caplan (who has no affiliation with House of Wise). He is the founder and Chief Medical Officer of Massachusetts-based CED Clinic and CED Foundation, as well as co-founder EO Care, Inc, a digital platform providing personalized cannabis-care plans.
Dr. Caplan explained that cannabinoids have both a short-term (acute) effect and a long-term effect. "Cannabinoids are stored in our fat cells and slowly build up and release over time," said Dr. Caplan. "People who are taking cannabis right now will feel an immediate effect but also a subtle, additional effect that releases over several weeks."
Dr. Caplan noted that consistent use of cannabis is particularly effective when treating inflammation and stress.
"Stress contributes to chronic inflammation, and when we are stressed, we release a lot of cortisol," Dr. Caplan explained. "If cortisol is high for a long period of time, it can cause damage to our tissues. CBD, or cannabinoids, creates a counterbalance."
The Benefits of Consistent Sleep, Exercise, and CBD
To put it very simply, stress is bad for you, and exercise and sleep are good for you. CBD can help you manage your stress and get better sleep, and it has antiinflammatory properties, so it can aid in exercise recovery.
Whether you're using CBD to manage your stress, get better sleep, or amp up your intimacy alone or with a partner, consistent dosing could be the missing piece in your wellness routine.
