CBD (cannabidiol) is kind of like the Bop-It! game — you can chew it, drink it, apply it, inhale it, or soak it. Choosing how to take CBD oil is all a matter of preference and how your body reacts to it. Some methods are more direct (e.g. edibles like tincture or gummies) while other products are slow to absorb (e.g. bath bombs).
The makeup of your CBD products will be either full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, or isolate. These terms speak to how processes the substance is and how many cannabinoids are present. Full-spectrum is the least processed, which may contain small traces of tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC (<0.3%).
Whether taken on its own or combined with other active ingredients, CBD oil is used by many people to fight pain, improve mood, find more restful sleep, and much more (ahem, have good sex). House of Wise uses hemp-derived, full-spectrum CBD as part of our wellness and self-care routines. It’s a simple way to deal with what the day has for you or decompress without the negative side effects of alcohol. So how do you take CBD oil? Here is how you can get your “fix,” and then some.
How to take your CBD oil: 5 popular methods
1. Tinctures
Tinctures are arguably the most common and quickest way of how to take your CBD oil. They come in an easy-to-use small bottle with a measured dropper, with instructions to place under the tongue (a method called sublingual) for maximum absorption into the bloodstream. Tincture bottles typically have a set amount of doses, and a full dropper as one dose. House of Wise tinctures contain 15ml of product (15 doses).
The sublingual method, aka taking it under your tongue, will fast-track the results and preserve more of the CBD vs. ingestion.
Tinctures are popular across the board, and for good reason. Many have other active ingredients and flavors blended in to achieve your desired result, such as melatonin in our SLEEP tincture or L-theanine in STRESS drops.
Not only can you take your CBD straight, but you can mix a dose into your beverages or food too (have you tried our drink recipes yet?). Be sure to follow dosage guidelines and directions so you can start slow and add as needed.
Store your bottle of tincture in a cool spot, not too cold or too hot, to keep it fresh. Hint: your purse counts as a storage spot. A tincture should last you a while, but if you take it daily, you will need to replenish your supply regularly (once or twice a month).
2. Gummies
We’re not gunna lie: gummies are a #WiseWoman favorite. Have you seen them? They’re just so… cute. May CBD users are fond of gummies, thanks to the yummy flavor and their on-the-go convenience. Chewy like your favorite movie theater candy, these CBD gummies deliver just the right dose to make your day smoother, more satisfying, and stress-free (or at least closer to it).
Keep in mind, as tasty as CBD gummies can be, they are not meant for popping like gummy bears or jelly beans. Follow the prescribed dosing instructions, or even start with half.
Spur-of-the-moment accessibility, availability to share, and long-lasting shelf life make gummies so great. Keep a stash throughout your house for access anytime, like in your desk drawer or nightstand. We’ve made it easy to try all three of our gummies with the SLEEP + STRESS + SEX Gummy Trio.
3. Topicals (lotions, creams, oils)
CBD has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties, which make it a great addition to many skincare products. For those dealing with chronic pain, muscle aches, and even skin conditions, topical forms of CBD are designed to absorb into the skin’s hair follicles and soothe where locally applied. You can also find CBD in skincare items like face serum, which many use as part of their acne and wrinkle prevention routines.
Topical products may be slower to absorb into your system than tinctures or gummies, but they’re multipurpose and fun to use in self-care.
4. Vapes
Vaping is the quickest way to see effects of CBD oil, but isn’t always the best. CBD oil is mixed with a carrier liquid so it can be inhaled through a vape pen. Vaping has been in the spotlight recently due to issues with lung damage, so do your research and always listen to your body.
It can be a bit difficult to assess how much CBD you are getting in your system through vaping because of how quickly it passes from your lungs into your blood. Again, follow instructions on the packaging. Some vape pens have a little light which blinks when you’ve sucked in the intended dose.
5. Pills and capsules
Pills are a great option if you prefer to swallow your CBD (with a tall glass of water) just like you would with medication. CBD oil pills are similar to other supplements that are flavorless and meant to ingest quickly.
Pills aren’t as fun (or yummy) as tinctures, gummies, or face serums, but may be appealing to those who are already popping a lot of vitamins or meds on the reg. They fit nicely in weekly pill organizers and are travel-friendly.
CBD is incredibly versatile. Try a few methods to see what you like best, like taking gummies one week then a tincture the next of the same formula. Just be sure you have quality products, because there is sketchy stuff on the market.
Every ingredient used in House of Wise CBD oils is derived from select hemp plant cultivated in the USA.
