CBD Oil for Stress: Why Cannabis Is Our Calming BFF

Feeling frazzled, burnt out, and tense? Yeah, we feel ya. With all these TikTok self-care trends going on, it's a mystery why American's are feeling their highest levels of stress. Spoiler alert: it's because alone time in the shower or a 40-minute pedicure doesn't cure anything when we've been through so much. That's why we love to use CBD oil for stress, sex, and sleep routines on a regular basis -- because the craziness doesn't always go away, we just manage it better.

Why we get stressed out

We know from middle school health class that stress triggers our fight-or-flight response. Though we're not being chased by lions like our ancient ancestors, our body is definitely on high alert when we're stressed. Your breath, pulse, blood pressure all increase while your immune system, sleep, and digestive system are working against you.

Even inherently positive things can stress us TF out, like work or family. And right when we feel like we managed everything, we're hit with even more to handle.

Types of stress (the good, bad, and chronic)

Not all stress is bad. Good stress (aka eustress) can produce similar physiological reactions as negative stress (e.g. increased pulse) but without the threat. Exercise, excitement from a birthday surprise, or meeting up with your Bumble date are examples of stress we welcome.

Acute stress is negative and can come from the above examples -- a looming sales presentation or weird IG like from your ex. This is what most people refer to when they are feeling stressed. A little of this is okay, but a lot of it piled on top of another, or repeated over time, isn't.

Chronic stress is more serious. Our bodies are literally not made to handle repeated stress or constantly feeling threatened, and our mental and physical health is at stake. Besides the frequent discomfort of headaches or stomach pains from the day-to-day grind, chronic stress can lead to more serious issues such as depression, heart disease, or other illnesses. A bad relationship, a toxic job situation, or dealing with grief can all be factors that trigger chronic stress.

A note on anxiety: Remember that stress is different than anxiety (though definitely related). Anxiety disorders such as panic attacks, OCD, and PTSD are serious. A mental health professional can help determine and diagnose your type of anxiety and suggest coping mechanisms. Many scientific studies have shown CBD to help reduce the side effects of anxiety and even impact the brain.

The bedroom and kitchen effect

Women can handle a lot, but our stress seeps into the rest of our life, affecting our sleep, energy, and health. What it impacts on the reg may be more of an obvious bother to you.

So we're left with a conundrum: stress makes it harder to have healthy sleep routines, food, and sex patterns, but these are also what can help ease it.

How CBD oil works in your body

CBD works with receptors in your endocannabinoid system (ECS) that impact your brain and nervous system. The ECS plays a huge role in the biological signaling associated with pain, sleep, sex, and -- you guessed it -- stress. CBD naturally reacts with the receptors to restore balance by either increasing our endocannabinoid levels when needed but also stopping them from becoming over-active.

Destressing with CBD vs. alcohol

Okay, we know it feels good to unwind with a drink or few after work or when the kids are finally in bed. There's no problem with that -- except for it often leaves us feeling groggy, sleeping poorly, and with a next-day headache. Alcohol isn't the only way to take the edge off. People are swapping their nightly glass of wine for CBD, and for a good reason.

Your endocannabinoid system can also be impacted by stress. This is where CBD comes in, helping your body to produce more endocannabinoids. These receptors are a part of many systems in the body, including the nervous system and brain.

How Wise Women use CBD in everyday situations

Wise Women have reported they pop a CBD STRESS gummy or drop in situations like:

  • Family and in-laws visiting
  • Pandemic grocery shopping
  • 30 minutes before the kid wakes up from a nap
  • Work scenarios (presentations, long Zoom calls, or getting in the zone for a project)
  • Using it to start the day (like drops in coffee)
  • Coping with postpartum anxiety

"Not only did I not experience any effects of being "high" (which I was definitely nervous about), my stress seemed to melt away. I was able to better handle tough situations and feel more level-headed throughout the day." - Jess M.

L-theanine + CBD = focused Zen

We created the House of Wise STRESS gummies and tinctures to help women take back control of their daily routines. All STRESS products contain 100mg of L-Theanine blended with full-spectrum, hemp-derived CBD oil to help combat the negative chemical effects of stress. This blend promotes calm and focus.

Unlike with alcohol or marijuana, which contains THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD helps take the edge off without the disruption of a high or buzz. L-theanine is an amino acid that is found in tea leaves and has been clinically proven to increase alpha brain waves, delivering a calm, focused state.

The flavor profile is fruity, flowery, and mellow with chamomile and passion fruit notes. No promises, but using CBD oil for stress might leave you saying, "Jitter? I don't even know her."
